How to get cheap insurance for my teen driver?

Getting cheap insurance for a teenage driver can be tricky, as younger drivers are considered higher risk by insurance companies. Seriously, we have a high school driver in our household and from driver’s education, the new rules through getting the new insurance increase, the experience is while. However, there are a few steps you can take to try and lower your premiums:

Shop around: Different insurance companies offer different rates, so it's important to compare quotes from multiple insurance companies before deciding. We brought our policies in-house and shopped at six different companies at Wenatchee Insurance. Our household’s insurance was with a single company.  We knew we needed more shopping power without going to half a dozen different agencies.

Consider adding your teen driver to your existing policy depending on the company. Some companies are set up better for older drivers. Yes, you want all the household’s drivers on one policy however the best policy may not be your current one.

Ask about discounts: Many insurance companies offer discounts for things like good grades, completing driver's education courses, or having a car with safety features like airbags or anti-lock brakes.

Car Choice is Important: A car with a high safety rating and lower horsepower will generally be cheaper to insure for a teen driver. The car can make a massive difference as there are popular cars that major companies are refusing due to theft instruction videos.

Ask about telemetrics: Telemetrics have come a long way from plugging a transmitter into the OBD Port under your dash. Today’s companies can offer telemetrics which means additional savings for driving depending on your driving habits.

Remember that the most important thing is to make sure your teen driver is safe and responsible on the road. Encourage them to follow all traffic laws, avoid distracted driving like texting or using their phone, and always wear their seatbelt.

Let's talk insurance.
